After a number of years of practice, Ivory is excited to bring pilates to the DC metro area. She received pilates certification in beginner and intermediate mat from Power Pilates. During this certification program, students learn the exercises and principles created by Joseph Pilates. In addition to learning the exercises, students also learn the specifics of a balanced workout, develop the ability to recognize proper body mechanics, and the methods necessary to work with special case clients (i.e. those with back, neck, knee, shoulder problems). This program also prepared her to demonstrate skills needed to aid others in developing the capacity to improve health status and implement intervention strategies to facilitate health-related change.
Ivory has also received personal training certification from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America and enjoys working with clients to help them achieve their fitness goals. Howard strongly believes in the essential mind and body connection and the importance of pilates to link the body as whole. Her teaching style is demonstrative, energetic and movement-focused. She specializes in core stability, flexibility and functional fitness. |
